Jazz Guitarist and Composer

Walter Beltrami has been defined as “one of the most interesting and original guitarist and composer of the new Italian Jazz scene”. Italian Jazz magazine MusicaJazz considers him one of the four guitarists who are re-shaping contemporary jazz guitar.
Eclectic and visionary, he began his career playing all sort of music before falling in love with jazz and improvised music.
He studied at Berklee College of Music (Boston) with great educators such as Mick Goodrick, Ed Tomassi, Dave Santoro, John Damian and then graduated with full scores at the Musikhochschule Luzern, studying with Christy Doran, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Frank Moebus.
He recorded 6 cds as a leader, among which the recent "Looperville" and “Paroxysmal Postural Vertigo” and "Kernel Panic" with modern jazz phenomenons Jim Black, Francesco Bearzatti, Vincent Courtois, Giovanni Falzone and Stomu Takeishi.
On 2004 he won the Prize Incroci Sonori Jazz at Moncalieri Jazz Festival, the Prize Luca Flores as best soloist at Barga Jazz and he was one of the 8 finalists worldwide of the First Gibson Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition at Montreux Jazz Festival.
At the Italian Top Jazz Prize 2011 he was at the 4th position in the top ten in the category Best Italian Guitarist. On 2013 his record “Kernel Panic” was at the third position of the top ten Best Italian Jazz Records and in the fifth as Best New Talent.
He performed in jazz clubs, theatres and festival in Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Norway, Russia and United States.
He played and/or recorded with: Francesco Bearzatti, Jim Black, Vincent Courtois, Stomu Takeishi, Giovanni Falzone, Claudio Puntin, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Moritz Eggert, Rainer Tempel, Walter Thompson, Giovanni Guidi, Markku Ounaskari, Harris Eisendstadt, Danilo Gallo, Stefano Senni and many others.
His music has been defined as “incendiary and electrifying” (AllaboutJazz Usa) “superb” (Jazzreview.com) “clever, subtle and creative” (Free Jazz Stef Blogspot), “superbamente lirica” (Sentire e ascoltare), “une véritable poesie musicale” (Jazzmagazine, France). Mescalina, the Italian all-music-genres web site has considered his last work “the best we happened to listened to so far in the current year. A must!”  
He also collaborates with visual artists, theatre and directors and work as a composer for film and tv.
He teaches Jazz Guitar and Harmony at the Conservatory "Centro Superior Escuela Creativa"in Madrid, where he's also Coordinator of the Jazz Performance Degree.
